The colorful world of Ami Suma

Tokyo born and bred, Ami Suma’s world is as colourful as in your wildest dreams.

As a child her first love was to draw pictures with her friends and for her 3 little sisters. Her second love was to redecorate her little room according to different themes. She would rearrange the whole room every week for years.

Her time living in the US during her teenage years, set up her future career. Inspired by the graffiti and liberty of being able to paint walls in different colors.

She remembered her childhood dream of a castle on a hill surrounded by forest and blue sky and wished to realize it, painted on a wall. Little did she know then, that she shared the same dream as many others, who caught on to her creations rapidly. Her requests to commission work for them kicked off her career.

A dream come true! Ami’s living her passion out fully, painting fairy tale lands on walls which was, and still is unheard of in most Japanese homes. Times are changing and for the better so it seems.

Her spaces are filled with wonder. They are soft painted in a pastel color palette, giving way to everyones imagination. A fantasy land, that inspires. A child’s room that gives out good vibes for a happy life.

Children exposed to beauty and art can work their imagination into stories. A creative flow that relaxes and puts them to sleep together with sweet dreams of castles, unicorns, superheroes, stardust and sugar candy.

Ami Suma’s work has been commissioned for various kids rooms, shops, schools, department stores and pop up shops in Tokyo and in New York. She incorporates her work in workshops in collaboration with the most creative of all, being children.
